Colin S. Diver, a professor of administrative law whose experiences in this city’s school busing crisis were chronicled in the book ”Common Ground,” which won a Pulitzer Prize, has been named dean of the Boston University School of Law. Mr. Diver, 44 years old, has been a member of the law school faculty since 1975 and associate dean since 1985. He is the co-author of ”Administrative Law: Cases and Materials,” written with Ronald A. Cass. ”We are poised to become one of the handful of great law schools in this country,” Mr. Diver said in a statement when his appointment was announced this week. The law school, founded in 1872, has 1,579 students and 188 faculty members. Mr. Diver will take over as dean June 15. He will replace William Schwartz, who retired after eight years as dean. In ”Common Ground,” a bestselling book published in 1985, the author J. Anthony Lukas traced the lives of the Divers and two other Boston families in the violence that surrounded the city’s court-ordered school desegregation.
